"Before the harp, the flute, the fiddle, before all other instruments made by human hand, there was the voice. The human voice can reach deep inside us as no other sound on earth, opening our hearts and minds to people and places distant or near, real or imagined, familiar or strange, and, as Wordsworth once wrote, to thoughts that 'lie too deep for tears'.
Singing gives voice to the soul. It expresses through language, nuance, tone and timbre all that the heart can hold. " ( Earle Hitchner, introduction to 'Celtic Voices')
